When I travel I always take an analogue camera. In 2017 I was at Congonhas do Campo, MG – Brazil and in that city there is a famous “Santuário do Bom Jesus de Matosinhos” (Sanctuary of Bom Jesus de Matosinhos), a historical and artistic monument that in 1985 was toppled by UNESCO and transformed in a World Cultural Heritage. There are the prophets of Antônio Francisco Lisboa, best known as Aleijadinho (1738-1814). It’s the biggest manifestation of the Baroque and the Brazilian colonial art, which deserved a highlighted place in the Western history art. Using Yashica EM with a medium format film (120), it can take a maximum of 12 photos. I have to be grateful for my relatives that were so patient. When I first saw the real-life sculptures, the churchyard, the church, the staircase and all the architectural complex, I was delighted. It took hours and hours holding my camera, up and down the stairs, noticing how the light hid and showed, highlighted and relieved the shapes and textures. The sculptures are powerful and until nowadays they say: “Look to the sky!”
